Starship Child Health is a dedicated paediatric healthcare service and major teaching centre, providing family centred care to neonates, children and young people throughout New Zealand and the South Pacific. Starship is a part of Auckland DHB and is the only comprehensive children's hospital in New Zealand serving a population of approximately 1 million children. Auckland DHB is NZ's largest public tertiary hospital which has strong ties with University of Auckland and provides extensive teaching and training opportunities.
Starship Newborn Services is a multidisciplinary team specialising in caring for newborn babies with medical, surgical and complex health needs. The team includes Neonatologists, Paediatric Registrars, Neonatal Nurses, Nurse Practitioners and Nurse Specialists, and Allied Health Therapists. We work alongside the National Women's Obstetric and Maternity Services and Starship Paediatric services. We are also part of the Maternal & Fetal Medicine Network.
Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
This Nurse Specialist position is an advanced nursing practice role. You will need to have excellent communication skills in the capacity to innovate, inspire and motivate others. This role is responsible for providing specialist lactation knowledge, education for staff and families/whanau across inpatient areas in Starship Children's Health. Integral to this, you will provide clinical breastfeeding support and advice for mothers and their infants while in the hospital.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills
We have a permanent part-time position (0.8FTE) available for an exceptional, forward thinking nurse specialist who is flexible, resilient and can manage a busy workload.

**To be successful in this role you will**:
Have completed a New Zealand nursing registration
Hold a relevant Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma
Recent clinical experience in caring for sick and/or preterm babies

**Ideally you will**:
Have significant proven experience in lactation and breastfeeding support
Have completed the International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) exam or be fully committed to achieving this within a mutually agreed timeframe
