**DAIRYNZ EXTENSION PARTNER - SOUTHLAND**

This role drives and supports change by ‘connecting the dots’ for dairy farmers on the ‘whys and how’s’ of farming better, linking with and supporting local farmers willing to partner and lead in exploring their own changes and by making leadership on key issues ‘doable’ for farmers.

Key activities include providing expertise at high value events which are designed to support farmers with efficient farming and adapting to the key challenges described in DairyNZ’s strategy; building and maintaining relationships with dairy farmers, listening to understand and capture their needs and perspectives to provide insights to DairyNZ and data and information collection, including an information interpretation service for farmers.

This is a 12-month fixed term role to cover parental leave.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Drive and deliver farmer to farmer learning
- Provision of dairy farming expertise
- Relationship management

**About You**

Confident in approaching farmers and able to ask the right questions to get to the core of the issue is essential for the role. Preferably you will have worked in a rural professional or consulting type role and critically, be comfortable presenting or facilitating groups and workshops.

The person in this role will be seen as practical and have pragmatism that comes from also understanding farmers in their place.

A tertiary qualification in agriculture is preferred.

The role is best suited to someone with the ability to travel throughout the region.
