Encounter Kaikoura is an eco-tourism business operating tours to the dusky dolphins and the albatross along the Kaikōura Coast.

Our small maintenance team prioritise ensuring seamless and continual operating of our vessels which is vital to the success of the business. Pre tour and post tour vessel servicing and grooming is a key responsibility to ensure that our vessels are well presented and ready for operating, on time and as required. If you have a “can do” attitude, have an eye for detail and are able to complete tasks in a timely manner, we are keen to talk with you.

**The role**:
Our workshop and vessels are located at South Bay and this is where most of the tasks are carried out. Whilst the main focus of the role is operations support, there will be some general maintenance assistance required from time to time. The hours per week on commencement are 30 hours increasing to 40 hours as the tourist season builds.

**Key responsibilities are**:

- Keeping all vessels and vehicles serviced and at a high standard of cleanliness & operational readiness. This includes refuelling, grooming, provisioning, and ensuring efficient vessel turnaround between trips.
- Manoeuvring of large machinery, launching and retrieving vessels on and off tailers at the slipway.
- Ensuring a clean and organised workspace, along with exceptional vessel, vehicle, and self-presentation.
- We are a 7-day operation and there will be some shifts that will fall on weekend days.
- Have a naturally strong work ethic and take pride in doing a great job regardless of the task
- Have a positive and willing attitude and possess good communication skills
- Have the flexibility and the capacity to adapt to changing situations as weather and sea conditions dictate what occurs on a day-to-day basis
- Have stamina and a reasonable level of physical fitness and ability (this role involves lifting and climbing ladders etc)
- Be punctual, and have the ability to complete tasks in a timely manner, as the operation relies on adhering to a timetabled schedule
- Be personable, friendly and team focused, and enjoy the mix of working with others and working autonomously to get the job done.
- Be able to work effectively and efficiently alone, along with the propensity to remain calm under pressure as the workload can be demanding when operating at full capacity
- Have a full drivers’ licence, which is essential
- An HT licence and some a degree of mechanical experience would be an advantage but not essential.

This role will require weekend hours and work on public holidays. This position requires some early starts and a degree of flexibility.
