Our newly established Infrastructure Regulation branch exists to make New Zealanders better off through the economic regulation of infrastructure in Aotearoa. We are looking for an investigator to join our team responsible for the compliance investigations across our Price Quality Regulation group.
This is a permanent position, based in our Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) office or Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) office, with flexible working options available.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
The Investigations team is responsible for the compliance investigations work spanning the electricity, gas and fibre sectors. Reporting to the Principal Investigator, you will form part of a dedicated and collaborative team.
You will be conducting, managing and leading investigations, including assessing breaches and the reasons they occurred. You will also be commissioning, and drawing on, expert reviews to form coherent and consistent enforcement recommendations.
You will be gathering, reviewing and analysing complex information and then presenting this either in written reports or in person to our decision makers, the Commissioners. Working with both internal and external stakeholders, your ability to develop strong relationships will ensure you get the work done. You will also bring some of the following skills and experience:

- strong analytical skills
- excellent written and oral communication skills
- proven project management skills with the ability to effectively prioritise competing demands and communicate this to others
- experience working with a wide range of stakeholders
- a strong interest in learning new things and developing new expertise
- an understanding of the principles of economic regulation
- a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience
- the ability to mentor and support other team members on investigative practice
- previous experience with a regulator or a regulated supplier, in at least one of the areas of our regulatory span
