**Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role**
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a full-time, fixed-term Kaiārahi Whaikaha - Disability and Inclusion Adviser to join the Te Amaru - Disability Services team until December 2025. The role of Kaiārahi Whaikaha - Disability and Inclusion Adviser is to work alongside students to determine their disability related needs and provide quality advice, access to services, information and coaching to assist them to fulfil their academic aspirations. They also collaborate with University staff to increase staff knowledge of disability inclusive approaches that will assist students to fully participate and succeed in their studies.
Key responsibilities:
- Conduct a strengths-based assessment of the disability related needs of students in relation to study and full University participation.
- Support the wellbeing of students through prioritising pastoral care including the active case management of students.
- Take a multi-disciplinary approach to student support working closely with other student services, academic staff, halls of residence, and external agencies.
- Foster academic achievement in students through monitoring academic results, promoting realistic workloads and identifying strategies that support success.
- Work effectively within a managed diary, whilst prioritising urgent needs in a dynamic environment.
**Ō pūmanawa - About you**
- Experience as an allied health professional with university degree, current registration and practicing certificate (e.g., Social Worker).
- Demonstrated ability in needs assessment and case management.
- Experience in working with people with a disability (including mental health) and/or people who are deaf.
- Respect for the lived experience and expertise of disabled people.
- Experience in producing clear written and in-person communication.
- Strong organisational, administrative, written and computer skills.
- Experience and interest in working with Māori, Pasifika and Rainbow communities.
- Experience in working respectfully and actively with people who are distressed.
- Knowledge and understanding of disability inclusive strategies and approaches.
- Experience in persuading others.
- Proven experience in providing a high quality client service.
- Experience and adaptability in client management and record keeping software.
This role requires safety checking through the police vetting system under the Vulnerable Children Act 2014.
