Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
We are looking for two senior nurses to join the urology team in the role of Clinical Nurse Specialist
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) urology provides specialist nursing advice, care and expertise, both in delivering direct patient care and in supporting other staff caring for patients with urological conditions. The focus is on assisting, directing and supporting the patient care and whānau through modelling expert clinical skills, promoting best practice, facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration and providing education. The CNS has an active role in the development and achievement of the strategic direction for the urology service.
The CNS - Urology uses advanced nursing knowledge and skills to:
- Establish/maintain Nurse-led services/clinics in ambulatory settings including prostate, bladder and kidney cancer surveillance, and benign pathology
- Strengthen a nurse-led case-management model for urology patients (including MDM preparation)
- Maintain service radical prostatectomy and transurethral resection of the prostate data base
- Initiating investigations (e.g. laboratory, radiology requests) linked to own clinics or surveillance (NOTE: only when preapproved with policy to support delegated responsibility that is approved by nursing leadership and Service)
- Participates in the planning and delivery of education for district health professionals that support and enhance management of urology. Note: Request to present to external organisations needs Service and nursing leadership approval
- Triaging of first surgical assessment referralsYou will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills and an ability to negotiate with key stakeholders in a busy and dynamic environment.
This role is based in Wellington Regional Hospital, however you will be working closely with services in regional hospitals and in the community to facilitate care.
Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team
Urology is a regional service providing investigation and treatment of adult and paediatric patients with diseases and abnormalities of the genital and urinary tract. Urology also supports the renal transplantation service.
Urology currently has operating theatre sessions Monday to Friday, across Wellington and Kenepuru Hospitals and outpatient clinics Monday to Friday, including procedural and nurse led clinics.
Services are provided on outpatient, inpatient and day case basis.
The diagnostic component of this service operates from a custom designed unit at Wellington Regional Hospital which provides:
- Transrectal ultrasonography and prostatic biopsy
- Fiducial markers
- Flexible cystoscopy
- Video urodynamics
- Non-video urodynamics
- Uroflowmetry and post void scanningMoū - About you
**Knowledge, Skills & Experience**:
- Clinical expertise and experience aligning with urology
- A minimum of three years - full-time equivalent practice in the area the RN is approved to prescribe, with at least one year of the total practice in New Zealand or a similar healthcare context
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, facilitation and coaching skills
- Experience in practice development and quality improvement strategies
- Comprehensive knowledge informs NZ Health System understanding including equity issues, professional leadership and emerging issues for the nursing profession
- Essential Professional Qualifications / Accreditations / Registrations:
- Expert level in Professional Development Recognition Programme (PDRP) and committed to maintain Expert/Senior Expert PDRP
- Clinical postgraduate diploma is the required qualification however support to enable Masters completion. Note: Postgraduate course re-requites to enable undertaking the RN prescribing practicum for RN prescribing in primary health and specialty teams when approved and required for role Someone well-suited to the role will place a high value on the following:
