About the role
The New Zealand Police High-Tech Crime Group Covert Online Team (COLT) is seeking a Technical Assistant, Investigator, or Specialist to join the team. This is an exciting time of change for our team and will provide applicants a unique opportunity to assist in the development of a NZ Police online capability.

In addition, you will innovate investigative techniques and develop solutions to complex technical problems. We are looking for applicants that are self-motivated, positive, and passionate problem-solvers. The role is unique as online offending is borderless and requires investigators to build effective relationships with both domestic and international companies and law enforcement agencies.

To succeed in this role, you must be secure with being exposed to objectionable publications including the sexual abuse of children. This role requires a focus on personal psychological wellbeing, and you will be expected to adhere to a strict wellness plan and participate in regular psychological debriefs.
This role requires the highest level of integrity and an interest in covert policing.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- Assessing technical opportunities that achieve effective Law Enforcement outcomes to support investigations.
- Monitor international best practices in cyber-enabled serious and organised crime, as well as online child exploitation investigations
- Contributing to the development of online investigation best practise and methodologies.
- Ensuring that all evidence preservation is in accordance with New Zealand legalisation, best practice and based on sound ethical principles.
- Deliver teaching and learning programmes with respect to the Technical Investigation to New Zealand Police and other government agencies both nationally and internationally.

Technical Assistant
This role is for a graduate in a Cybersecurity, Computer Science/Networking, or Open-Source Intelligence course, or similar, or equivalent industry experience (2 years minimum).

Technical Investigator
This role is for a graduate with an Undergraduate Degree or equivalent industry experience (3 years minimum) in Cybersecurity, Computer Science/Networking, or Open-Source Intelligence, or similar.

Technical Specialist
This role is for a graduate with a Master’s Degree or equivalent industry experience (5 years minimum) in Cybersecurity, Technical Investigations, Incident Response, Computer Science/Networking, or Open-Source Intelligence, or similar.

**Special Requirements**:

- Clean and current (full) driver’s license
- IT qualification or work experience within an IT related field
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret National Security Clearance
- Successful applicants must complete the COLT Authorised Officer warranting process within 12 months to be warranted under s24(1)(a) of the Policing Act 2008
- Complete the relevant expert witness training program
