About the Role│Kōrero mō te tūranga
We have a permanent Team Leader role within Te Uru Rākau - New Zealand Forest Service at Ministry for Primary Industries. The Forestry Operations Teams look after the day-to-day processing of New Zealand's Emissions Trading Scheme for Forestry.
This role would suit someone who is comfortable leading a team of experts, while not necessarily being an expert themselves. The role also requires someone to be comfortable operating in a regulatory space.
**Core responsibilities include**:
- Leading a team of analysts and providing operational oversight of forestry participation in the Emissions Trade Scheme and Permanent Forest Sink Initiative.
- Provide leadership and direction for the team, ensuring robust processes are followed and staff have learning and development opportunities
- Establish and maintain successful and productive stakeholder relationships with key parties
- Negotiate complex operational matters and resolve escalated issues
- Leading and contributing to the development, documentation, review and improvement of Emissions Trading Scheme operational processes for staff
- Coordinating the delivery of advice to Managers, Directors and Ministers

**To be successful in this role you will have**:
- People leadership experience, with the ability to build a strong team culture and get the best out of people.
- Experience in managing a team through change, (both technology change and legislative change ideally).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- A tertiary qualification in science, law, climate change or forestry is ideal, but not essential.
- Ability to read and interpret legislation.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of people and work in a collaborative manner to succeed.
- An understanding of the public sector and the machinery of government, including interaction with decision makers and stakeholders would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of the forestry aspects of New Zealand's Emissions Trading Scheme is valuable but not essential.
