**About the Role**:
We are seeking an experienced **Clinical Charge Nurse** to join our Tiaho Mai Acute Inpatient Mental Health team at Health New Zealand Counties Manukau. This is an exciting opportunity to step into a pivotal leadership role that strongly influences nursing practice, service delivery and outcomes for taangata whaiora and their whaanau.

As a Clinical Charge Nurse, you will be responsible for supporting the Charge Nurse Manager by providing leadership to the nursing team, guiding clinical decision-making, strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration, and ensuring care is delivered in line with best practice, organisational priorities, and principles of trauma-informed, recovery-focused mental health care.

You will provide day-to-day clinical leadership and operational coordination of the inpatient unit across a 24-hour service. You will work closely with Tiaho Mai management to ensure safe staffing levels, effective workload planning, high quality clinical practice and a supportive environment for nursing and support staff.

This role is integral to maintaining safe systems, supporting professional development, championing quality improvements, and upholding cultural responsiveness within our acute service.

**Key Responsibilities**:
Leadership & Team Support:

- Provide visible, consistent clinical leadership and role modelling of Health NZ values.
- Inspire and build cohesive, high-performing nursing teams.
- Support staff coaching, supervision, and professional development.
- Contribute to recruitment, orientation, and performance development processes.

Operational Coordination:

- Provide daily clinical coordination including bed management, acuity assessment, and allocation of nursing resources.
- Ensure safe staffing and skill mix across all shifts.
- Oversee rostering, TrendCare and variance analysis tools.
- Support emergency response and manage critical incidents with professionalism and calm.

Clinical Excellence:

- Promote safe, person-centred, evidence-based nursing care.
- Lead and support Trauma Informed Care practices, including restraint and seclusion elimination.
- Maintain high clinical standards and support implementation of clinical governance recommendations.
- Participate in policy reviews, clinical audits, quality improvement and risk mitigation initiatives.

Quality, Safety & Risk:

- Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with health and safety requirements.
- Support incident reporting, investigation, and follow-up actions.
- Contribute to continuous quality improvement and uphold Mental Health Act principles.

Cultural Safety:

- Promote culturally responsive care and recognise Maaori as Tangata Whenua.
- Ensure services meet the needs of our diverse community with respect and understanding.

**About You**:

- NZ Registered Nurse with a current Annual Practicing Certificate.
- 4+ years mental health nursing experience in NZ (post registration).
- Proven leadership experience - ability to lead and coordinate a team.
- Strong clinical coordination, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Relevant post graduate qualification
- Full and clean NZ Drivers Licence
