An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced manager to lead our Budget team. This is a key strategic role which is at the heart of government decision making.
Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role
The annual Budget is the key process for the Government to invest in improving the wellbeing of New Zealanders. The Budget team has the primary responsibility of coordinating this process, including working closely with the Minister of Finance and his office. The Budget team supports the Government and the wider public service by leading each phase of the annual Budget process, including Budget strategy, design, ministerial decision-making and production.
Ō pūmanawa | About You
We are looking for an experienced people leader who will guide, support and develop this high-performing and busy team.
- Has experience with, and a passion for the Budget process or alternatively has a deep understanding of New Zealand's public finance system
- Is a strategic thinker, who is able to anticipate the Minister's needs and ensure the team delivers highly quality, timely and influential advice
- Thinks critically, understanding the broader impacts of decisions
- Has exceptional relationship management skills and credibility to engage with and influence senior decision makers whilst connecting issues and being aware of changing environments
- Possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to represent the Treasury in senior forums
- Is resilient and calm under pressure, with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, sensitive, changeable and ambiguous environment
- Has strong people leadership with experience developing and leading a team to deliver high quality outcomes.
Well-honed relationship management skills will hold you in good stead as a key component of this role comprises connecting across Treasury and key sector and system teams across government, working together to continuously improve the public finance system.
