**Expression of interest - Director of** Disaster Readiness and Response**

We’re looking for a collaborative and connected leader for a newly created leadership role in Aotearoa, New Zealand, to lead the development of our disaster readiness and response.

**Te kāinga rua | The opportunity**

Across Aotearoa, New Zealand, we are seeing an increased frequency and severity of climate events with ever present risk of other natural disasters across our geography. In the past 12 months alone, we have experienced six significant weather events severely impacting our communities and businesses. These issues are compounding and cause major disruption to local economies, with a range of follow-on social impacts.

We are experiencing multiple events across various locations, with a need to coordinate a myriad of activities across immediate response through to recovery and resilience building.1 For Beca, this presents
- A desire to be well prepared and ready to quickly support our clients and communities and our Beca teams in impacted locations.
- Large and multiple shifts in our future pipeline as funding is moved around, with a need for us to continuously re-prioritise and balance our opportunity pursuit and delivery resourcing.
- Growth opportunities where these align with our business strategy.

Through operating as One Beca, we have the opportunity to truly make a difference to our communities and clients by taking a more proactive, deliberate and organised approach to how we are responding to the evolving scale and complexity of these climate events and potential natural disaster events by creating this new role.

As a newly created role you will have the opportunity to shape the way we purposefully coordinate our response to these climate events.

We see this as a key market shaping role, which will be your primary focus, sitting alongside and complementing your current market facing activity. From an overall perspective, the role will provide a central point of coordination and connection across our business and as such you will:

- Provide overarching leadership and oversee response across all significant climate and other disaster events and impacted locations, evolving and cumulative;
- Work with local crisis management teams and front immediate response to inform and develop a strategic approach moving forward;
- Connect with executives of our key clients, local government, and key central government agencies;
- Provide input to market leads and CRMs to support with maintaining an up-to-date view of the emerging opportunity pipelines with key clients; and
- Develop communication and marketing strategies to elevate visibility of Beca capabilities in strategically important markets and with key clients and partners.

You will work alongside our New Zealand Leadership team helping to prioritise resourcing between response activities and committed delivery.

You will be passionate about making a difference and have exceptional communication skills. You are a relationship builder who initiates, manages and develops strategic and operational relationships both externally with key clients as well as internally with key market and regional leaders. You have the natural ability to work with and influence a wide group of people across all levels of organisations and be someone who is comfortable operating in the grey and works well with uncertainty, ambiguity and complexity.

We are interested in hearing from senior leaders who are looking for their next challenge. It’s important to note:

- Given the size and scale of this role, we are looking for a CL10 Senior Principal. However, we could consider an exceptional CL9 Principal.
- You would ideally be based in one of our major centres.
- This role can sit in any part of the business and will have a dotted line to Darryl-Lee Wendelborn, New Zealand Managing Director.
