**Āu Mahi | What You Will Do**

The University of Canterbury (UC) is seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Reporting and Compliance to lead the financial services team. As a key player in the finance function, the Head of Reporting and Compliance will oversee financial reporting, budgeting, treasury management, and policy development. This role requires a leader who is passionate about delivering accurate, timely financial information while fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement within the team. Ideally you will possess strong technical expertise, exceptional leadership skills, and a commitment to upholding the University's values and strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities and task:

- ** People Leadership & Team Development**: Lead, inspire, and coach a high-performance accounting team
- ** Financial Reporting**: Ensure accurate and timely financial reports for senior management, external parties, and regulatory bodies, including the Ministry of Education and University Council.
- ** Data Integrity**: Maintain financial data integrity by ensuring accurate transactions, compliance with policies, and regular reconciliations.
- ** Budget & Forecast Management**: Coordinate budgets and forecasts, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and regulatory requirements, and provide financial insights to leadership.
- ** Treasury Management**: Oversee cash flow, investment returns, and foreign exchange, ensuring alignment with the University's financial strategy.
- ** Policy Development & Compliance**: Lead the creation and implementation of financial policies and ensure compliance with regulations and best practices.
- ** Risk Management & Compliance**: Identify and manage financial risks, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and reporting regulations

**Mōu | Who You Are**

To be successful you will have worked in a similar role within a large and complex organisation and have:

- At least 12 years of experience in accounting, including a minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership role overseeing financial reporting and management accounting.
- Extensive experience with Oracle Financials or similar systems.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and solid technical knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team of 8+ staff, driving performance and professional development.
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Accounting, or related field, with Chartered Accountant membership (NZICA) required.
