**Te** **kōwhiringa | The Opportunity**

The purpose of this position is to oversee all aspect of the laboratory business. This includes leadership, preparation and implementation of a strategy for the laboratory, as well as responsibility for the ongoing development of the scope and scale of the lab business.

Key result areas will include, but are not limited to:

- Laboratory Business: Develop a network within the targeted sectors to assist with the identification and evaluation of business growth opportunities.
- Planning and Development: Develop productivity, quality and safety targets and objectives in conjunction with the Laboratory Managers and the Technical Services Manager
- Laboratory Operation: IANZ accredited KTP and ensure laboratory is managed to ISO 17025 regulations.
- Material Testing and Product Design: Ensure materials are tested to relevant registered methods, ensuring specifications in manuals are current.
- Administration: Complete and maintain all duties associated with daily work activities, ensure IANZ audits are closed out and documents returned in a timely manner to IANZ, and monthly Road Science report inserts to be provided to Technical Services Manager.
- Safety, Environment, Quality & Risk Management (Zero Harm): Lead by example, driving Zero Harm through operational excellence and manage operations to achieve a superior level of safety, environmental and quality performance.
- People Management & Development: Involve team in setting clear targets for their area of responsibility.
- Manage, coach, and assist direct reports to achieve their targets and improve their competency.

The Laboratory Manager ensures a high standard of technical support is delivered to clients that adds value and improves the competitive advantage of the business. Responsible for managing laboratory activities to meet business and customer expectations, the Laboratory Manager will maximise the effective use of laboratory resources and ensure the laboratories are managed to the standard required by IANZ registration and company ISO 17025, 9001 + 14001.

**Nga pūkenga matua | Important Skills**
- A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience of managing delivery of technical services in a commercial environment.
- Several years' experience in the contracting industry/laboratory environment in the testing of either, binders, aggregate, soils or asphalt.
