Wētā FX Motion Editing Department is looking for enthusiastic Motion Prep artists who are passionate about working with realistic motion-captured performances of character and creature animations.

Primarily responsible for editing motion of captured performances and integrating motion elements into the shot environment.

**Motion Editing Prep role includes**:

- Non-destructive modification of motion when mapping, staging through spatial and timing adjustments according to Template, Animatics, Previz references and supervisor's feedback.
- Mapping to up-to-date rigs for characters and props, and assembling them in the latest environment/terrain/layout elements.
- Blending and stitching body motion; which includes inserting/removing body movements according to template references received from clients.
- Performance adjustments to enhance timing, framing and posture.
- Troubleshooting and flagging issues and bad data that might be too noisy or too smooth.
- Understanding of mapping techniques for transferring motion from one character to another.
- Ability to observe, catch and raise technical issues.
- Attention to details.
- Sharp eyes for motion, timing, and posture.
- Character Animation background and a well-grounded understanding of the principles of Animation.
- Experience working with motion-captured performance animations using Motionbuilder and/or Maya.
- Good communication skills and ability to take direction and feedback constructively.
- Background in Gaming, Houdini, Blender or Giant / Nuance is a plus.
- Background and experience with Unreal Engine, Unity3d and character dynamics and interest in AI character simulations are also desirable.
