We have an exciting opportunity for a professional and high performing leader to join Councils hard working animal control team.

The purpose of this busy role is to ensure the effective operation of the Animal Control Unit and providing an efficient Animal Control service by way of compliance with relevant statutes and bylaws.

The person we are looking for will demonstrate the following essential requirements to be successful:

- The co-ordination, direction and supervision of the day-to-day operation of the Animal Control Unit and the utilisation of section resources including the rostering of staff
- Prosecuting Defended and Guilty matters through the District Court
- An ability to interpret and understand relevant Statutes and Bylaws
- An affinity with, and experience in handling dogs and stock with the ability to show empathy, both to animals and their owners, in situations of high stress for all involved
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to multi-task
- Confidence working in Maori environments and ability to respond in culturally appropriate ways when working with mana whenua and Maori in general
- Arranging media advertising for the Animal Control Unit
- A current valid Driver's Licence and the ability to obtain a firearms licence is essential
- Experience in a compliance role is desirable

The successful applicant will be Police vetted and required to undergo a pre-employment Drug & Alcohol screening test.
