The Waitangi Tribunal is a permanent commission of inquiry charged with making recommendations on claims brought by Māori relating to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. It holds a unique place in the New Zealand constitutional framework.
Te Haeata/The Opportunity
The Assistant Registrar supports the Waitangi Tribunal by performing registrarial functions that are essential to the effective operation of the organisation. These functions include:

- The registration of claims;
- Providing drafting assistance and advice in relation to legal and procedural issues.

Ō pūkenga/Skills and Experience
**To be successful in the role you will have**:

- An LLB, or advanced study towards an LLB, is essential for this position
- An understanding of Waitangi Tribunal jurisprudence.
- Experience working with Māori groups and organisations; and
- Well-developed organisation, planning and writing skills, particularly legal research, critique and analysis
- An understanding of Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori or a desire to be able to develop in this area

Experience working with judiciary and a commitment to further develop your knowledge in Te Reo and Tikanga Māori will be an advantage.

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The appointing salary for this role will be between $65,066 and $90,008 based on skills and experience.
