The purpose of the Health and Disability Commissioner (HDC) is to promote and protect health and disability services consumers' rights and to facilitate the fair and efficient resolution of complaints relating to infringement of those rights.

As New Zealand's health watchdog, the Commissioner is involved in a wide spectrum of health concerns to ensure accountability in the healthcare system and promote high standards of care.

**Mo tenei turanga mahi | About this role**:
As a Senior Complaints Assessor, you'll lead the assessment and resolution of complex complaints involving multiple providers, clinical disciplines, and legal frameworks.

This is a senior role within the team with real influence - not only will you manage complex cases, but you'll also help shape the capability and culture of the team. You'll mentor and coach junior staff, contribute to peer review and quality assurance, and support continuous improvement through structured feedback and leadership.

You'll also play a key role in identifying equity concerns and embedding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te Ao Maori principles into everyday practice, ensuring culturally responsive and fair outcomes for all consumers.

You'll thrive in this role if you are a clear thinker, a strong communicator, and someone who brings both professionalism and compassion to challenging conversations.

We're looking for someone with:

- Exceptional writing and communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal and ethical concepts clearly.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with people from all walks of life.
- Experience mentoring or coaching others and peer reviewing.
- A genuine interest in health and disability rights, and a commitment to equity and Te Tiriti o Waitangi

A relevant tertiary qualification (law, health, or disability-related fields are an advantage)
- At least four years' relevant experience in complaints resolution, investigations, or a related area.

**Awhe utu - Salary range**

As part of our remuneration framework the base salary midpoint is $90,191 and actual salary is dependent on skills and experience.
