Pool Barrier Inspector

**18 month fixed term role** Whanganui District Council is tasked with ensuring that the means of restricting access to swimming pools meets legislative timeframes and building code requirements for the current 600 plus pools on our register. In response, Council is wishing to expand its team of compliance officers to ensure it continues to deliver an effective, efficient and responsive service to ensure swimming pools are safe. An exciting opportunity exists for someone who is passionate about the safety and well-being of our community. You will be the guardian of our swimming pool stock, auditing, maintaining our register, advising and interpreting the laws and standards that control the means of restricting access to swimming pools. You will also deal with "pop-up" pools over the summer months to ensure the necessary compliance. This role will contribute to the safety and amenity of our community now and into the future. The Building Control team is solutions-focussed, ensuring that a performance-based regulatory system is in place and maintained to ensure that the community can be assured they are safe, healthy and structures are durable and sustainable. No two days are ever the same and you will need to be flexible as there will be a mix of onsite and office work where required. This role will also include components of building safety when dealing with specified systems and Building Warrant of Fitness requirements. **What you will bring to the role**: - auditing/inspection experience; - excellent oral and written communication skills, and - an assured manner when dealing with the public and be able to defuse potentially volatile situations.
