**The Opportunity**

When established way back in the 1980s Progressive Meats was ahead of its time, adopting leading edge innovations that has enabled it to remain a highly successful dedicated toll processor for 40 years. With its eyes firmly on the future the company is positioning itself to be successful for the next 40 years This role will be instrumental in making this goal a reality.

Here is a broad role that will draw upon your core engineering skills, your ability to develop and lead a team, the commercial acumen to manage capital and improvement projects, and most importantly, your strengths as a strategic thinker.

**The role**

As Engineering Manager you will be responsible for developing a strategic engineering plan that is aligned with the company’s overall business plan, and delivering outcomes in relation to plant reliability, maintenance and capital expenditure. You will be accountable for ensuring optimal plant operations, maximising productivity and obtaining maximum profitability through effective use of contractors, suppliers and other resources.

This is both a tactical and change management role. You will review the status quo, identify opportunities for improvement and lead the department on its journey to excellence.

**Skills and attributes**

We seek:

- A relevant engineering qualification or trade qualification (Mechanical, Electrical, Process Control) is a must.
- Verifiable management experience within the meat processing, manufacturing or process engineering industries.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to identify, train and retain talent.
- The ability to develop positive working relationships with internal teams and contractors.
- Demonstrated knowledge of lean principles and/or Six Sigma methodology. You are experienced in implementing continuous improvement initiatives, ideally in the areas of preventative maintenance, waste reduction, cost control and engineering efficiency.
- A smart, dynamic self-starter with strong influencing skills, exceptional interpersonal and problem solving skills and the ability to get others on board with new ways of thinking and doing.
