**About the role** - **Korero mo te turanga**
The International Legal Adviser is part of a team responsible for providing strong analytical and strategic legal advice in support of the government's objectives for New Zealand's international relations. This role is in the Trade Law Unit (TLU) of MFAT's Legal Division. You will be responsible for:
- International trade negotiations, including the negotiation and implementation of free trade agreements (FTAs);
- Representing NZ in international dispute settlement proceedings at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and under our FTAs.
The full salary range for this role is $87,672 and $118,615 total remuneration, inclusive of our 3% KiwiSaver employer contribution.
We expect to appoint around the midpoint $103,000 - give or take depending on your level of experience.
**Who are we looking for? - Ma wai te mahi nei?**
We'd like to hear from you if you are an experienced lawyer (at least 3 years PQE) with the following skills and experience:
- A minimum of a Bachelor of Laws including some study of international law or trade law.
- Work experience as a lawyer or legal adviser in relation to trade law, international law or commercial litigation.
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal with the confidence to connect with a range of people.
- Excellent relationship management, with the ability to work both self-directed and collaboratively.
- Understanding of The Treaty of Waitangi/Te Tiriti, Te Reo Maori and Maori customs and protocols would be beneficial.
