Job Description
To undertake the National Certificate in Plastics Processing Technology (Technical) to Level 4, developing the necessary skill set to become a trade trained die setter. To work as part of the operational team providing technical and fitting services to the team, to ensure the efficient running of the manufacturing process and to help ensure best utilisation of materials and labour.
**Key Tasks**:
To undertake a training programme with Alto Packaging supported by Competenz thru to completion of Level 4 Plastics Processing Technology. To help ensure key cost areas of raw material usage, workstation up time and efficiency, labour usage and quality are met. To ensure that health, safety and environmental requirements are met at all times.
This is a production role and is pivotal to the smooth running of the manufacturing operation. Time should be divided between:

- Performing insert changes and die changes on all equipment as required
- Ensure that product conforms to the quality specifications at start up
- Make adjustments to the process to ensure quality performance is met at all times
- Carry out routine maintenance of equipment as required
- Repair equipment and tooling breakdowns in line with acquired skills
- Undertake special projects as required
- Other tasks as required by the process technician or operations manager
- Highlight and action tooling and machinery maintenance requests as required during and at the end of production runs
- Communicate effectively with all fitting and technical staff in the department by way of completing detailed shift reports so that essential information and issues encountered are passed on

**Training & Experience**

**Requirements**:
**_Essential_**
- Completion of year 12 secondary Schooling
- Completion of Level 2 NCEA
- Can demonstrate written, oral and communication skills in line with the requirements of the role
- A level of demonstrated mechanical experience
- Desirable_
- Working toward completion of a plastics trade qualification that reflects the responsibilities of the role
- Experience using word processing and spreadsheet programmes
- Achievement of Level 2 NCEA Internal or External maths
- Achievement of Level 2 NCEA Design and Visual Communication (or)
- Achievement of Level 2 NCEA Materials Technology

**Reports To**:Operations Manager
**General Information**:
**_Working relationships_**
- Maintain contact with the production technician for prioritising of work, quality issues and work centre issues
- Maintain contact with maintenance staff for repair and maintenance of tooling and equipment
- Contact with operating staff for work centre uptime and quality issues
- Contact with the process technicians for support with training and skill requirements and with assistance of complex technical issues

**_Hygiene_**
- To ensure a continual high standard of personal hygiene and plant housekeeping/hygiene whilst on site and in working situation
- To wear paper hats, beard masks as required to ensure minimum contamination of food grade products
- To follow all other Food Packaging Hygiene rules in place
- Ensure that reporting staff follow all hygiene rules

**_Safety_**
- To undertake all work in a safe manner with respect to oneself and others at all times
- Cleaning up after any spillage.
- To use all safety equipment supplied as directed
- Follow all signage and comply with Training Procedures
- To report any unsafe condition and potential hazards
- To report any injury or near miss/incident
- Assist to clean machines when not in operation
- Ensure that safety observations are completed in line with requirements

**_Environmental_**
- Adhere to the company environmental policy and guidelines
- Adhere to all environmental procedures
- Identify potential environmental hazards and report these
- Assist with achieving environmental targets where possible
