About the role

The purpose of the Employment Resolutions team is to manage and resolve conduct related matters using a values-based framework that has our people’s hearts and minds at the forefront and allows our people to feel safe to talk and supports a high-trust culture.
The role of the Employment Resolutions Specialist is to provide high quality, timely and lawful advice to decision makers which ensure the Guiding Principles of the employment process are front of mind and in line with the Employment Relations Act 2000 and employer obligations.
This role also oversees the support and wellbeing of our people going through an employment resolution matter. The Employment Resolutions Specialist will support fair outcomes for both our people and the organisation and when appropriate the use of alternative and/or restorative practices and the subsequent re-integration of staff back into the workplace after an employment process.
The Employment Resolutions Team (Te Ohu Manawanui) is a brand-new workgroup within Police. In addition to this role, the team is made up of 39 people consisting of managers, team leads, other specialists and employment investigators.
**Key Accountabilities**:
- Provide specialist employment advice, options and holistic solutions to decision makers and managers to achieve desired outcomes.
- Responsible for the delivery, quality, and consistency of employment resolutions assessments, case management and outcomes.
- Demonstrate and champion best practice around employment resolutions as they relate to misconduct and serious misconduct within Police.
- Ensure areas of potential risk to Police image, trust and confidence and reputation with employee matters are identified and appropriately escalated.
- Ensure any restorative practice processes or alternative pathways operate in a lawful, constructive and ethical way.

**To be successful in this role, you will**:
- Have experience in supporting the resolution of complex employment issues, including disciplinary processes.
- Have experience working effectively with external stakeholders including Unions and regulatory organisations.
- Experience in working within a case management framework.
- Have critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make sound decisions and conclusions.
- Have a high standard of integrity and trust, particularly in respect of handling sensitive information.
- Have strong interpersonal relationship skills and an ability to connect with and influence people at all levels of the organisation.
- Have good working knowledge of employment law, including the principles of good faith and natural justice, processes and have experience advising on complex employment matters.
- Know the impact of unconscious bias and how to manage own biases.
- Have the ability to think ‘outside the box’ as it relates to solutions.
- Have the ability to provide trusted advice and solutions to decision makers and their leadership teams on complex and high-risk matters
