As the Charge Midwife Manager of the Nelson Maternity Unit you will provide clinical expertise, leadership and management of the maternity service. In this role you will promote a safe, evidence-based practice environment that supports service requirements and meets the needs of women, babies and their families and whānau in the Nelson/Tasman region.
A key focus of the role will be in ensuring that the maternity service is provided in accordance with service specifications, the national maternity standards and maternity quality and safety programme. The service priorities will reflect the Nelson Marlborough Health (NMH) Annual Plan objectives for maternity services.
The scope of this role is currently under review and any potential changes will be discussed with potential applicants/appointees.
The Charge Midwife Manager will report to the Associate Director of Midwifery/Operations Manager and be professionally responsible to the Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Nelson Marlborough Health.

You will demonstrate sound professional judgement, strong leadership skills with a clear commitment to high-quality care, improving health outcomes for Māori and development of the service. Key to your success in this position will be your ability to provide leadership through the continued primary maternity service development ‘First 1,000 days’ project and supporting the LMC primary maternity workforce.
Supporting and leading initiatives to increase workforce diversity and sustainability will be key.
You will be able to demonstrate relevant experience and knowledge of women and whānau safety, resource management including budgeting, equipment and staff. Support will be provided where necessary.
It is expected that you will have significant midwifery experience, a current APC with no conditions and evidence of post graduate qualifications. Previous management experience is preferred.

The Nelson hospital maternity unit has an excellent core midwifery team and supports local LMC’s to provide high-quality and accessible primary maternity services. The service is well supported by the Midwifery Education programme, MQSP programme, and strong links with other community health care providers. We provide leadership development within the health care arena.
