Our legal team support all areas of Z’s business and ensure that our enterprise legal risks are appropriately managed. They enable and empower Z’s business outcomes within the law and protect Z’s licence to operate and keep our people safe.

Working as part of our skilled and passionate in-house team will see you support Z’s goal of powering better journeys, today and tomorrow during an exciting time in our industry.

As our Rōia Matua Senior Legal Counsel you will provide leadership and guidance to both the team and across our business while providing specialist legal advice across a variety of areas. It is a senior role within the team requiring you to support and mentor your members of the legal team and due to the structure of our work will also see you get involved in delivering on our mahi.

**You will have the opportunity to**
- Provide leadership and deliver specialist legal advice which is commercial, clear, pragmatic and fit for purpose across all investment streams, to manage risks across our business; this may include legal, commercial, financial, regulatory (including H&S), and reputational risks
- Lead commercial dealings and review, draft and negotiate a wide variety of documents including joint-venture arrangements, transaction arrangements, storage agreements, construction and property arrangements, supplier contracts, and other commercial arrangements
- This is a senior leadership role within the team, you will work closely with our Associate General Counsel and stand in for them as needed
- Participate in and guide squads as legal support for key strategic outcomes
- Build knowledge and capability across the business including written and verbal training, ‘how to’ guides, templates and other tools for self help
- Support good contract and contractor management across the business including the effective management of external legal services
- Be part of the broader Ampol group and a valued member of the Z legal whānau and as a senior member of the team commit to ongoing learning for yourself as well as providing coaching and development to enhance the capability of the team
- Take the lead on dispute resolution processes, including any litigation or arbitration
- Stay well informed across regulatory and statutory reform identifying risks and opportunities for Z

**Qualifications**:
**What you’ll bring to Z**
- An admitted Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand with 7-10 years PQE
- Generalist experience, but you may have worked across commercial, competition, company, energy and property law
- Experience in a senior legal role providing specialist advice and guiding and mentoring a team to successful outcomes
- The ability to build strong relationships across the business and communicate legal advice to a wide variety of stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience of adding value, finding innovative ways to make things better and improving the process of giving and receiving advice
- Experience in drafting and negotiating commercial arrangements and operating in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment
- The ability to operate at a senior level and as well as the willingness to be part of the team and deliver on our work
