**Contract**: Permanent, Rostered and rotating, part time 64 to 72 hours per fortnight

Kōrero mō te tūranga ' About the role
The Acute Frailty Unit provides 24 hours a day, 7 days a week services that focuses on timely assessment, diagnosis and acute treatment planning of frail patients with a wide range of medical conditions. All of the patients admitted into this area benefit from a model of care that focuses on reducing hospital harm. This is achieved by a short length of stay, an interdisciplinary model of care that prevents patients deconditioning.
We are looking to recruit a Health Care Assistant (HCA) to join our team in Ward 3. HCA's play an important part in patients cares, within the Acute Health of the Older Person service based in Ward 3 at Wellington Regional Hospital. As the successful applicant you'll have the ability to communicate effectively and prioritise tasks appropriately under the delegation of a Registered Nurse.
You'll assist the nursing staff and patients with activities of daily living. You will be tasked with the restocking of clinical supplies and maintaining a clean environment. You will also be tasked with patient observation and engagement. If you're an energetic and motivated person with good communication skills and have NZQA Level 3 in Health and Wellbeing (or equivalent), we want to hear from you.

The successful applicant will join a team of around 35 Nursing staff. We work together closely to provide a service of high standard to patients and their families and whanau. We are a very supportive team who provide training and learning opportunities, encourage professional development and have fun and laughter along the way.

**Duties**:
- Developing rapport with patients to encourage their interests and participation in their care
- Encouraging patients to be as independent as their condition allows
- Reinforcing activities that promote success in achieving daily living skills
- Documenting interventions with patients and feeding back any issues to Allied Health staff
- Supporting people with personal cares as required
- Undertaking other administrative and team support tasks
- Restocking of clinical supplies
- Maintaining a clean ward environment.
- Patient observation and engagement.Skills & experience;
- Level 3 NZQA National Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (or equivalent qualification)
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting working with older people ' desirable.
- Understands the impact of age, illness and disability on ability to achieve day to day living tasks
- Current NZ working Visa/residency or a NZ Citizen
