Join the Customs Regulations Review team
We are looking for a Senior Policy Analyst or someone who is ready to step up to their first senior policy role to join our high-performing and friendly team.
The Regulations Review team is tasked with reviewing the significant amount of secondary legislation that Customs is responsible for administering. This is an intellectually stimulating environment where you will provide in-depth policy advice and support to help Customs meet its regulatory stewardship obligations.
This role will suit someone who has led and managed policy projects, and can demonstrate good communication, analysis and strategic thinking skills. You will have a solid understanding of the machinery of government, be able to work under pressure and be a good team player.
In this role, you will be expected to develop and provide high quality advice to Customs' Executive Board and Ministers, as well as work collaboratively with stakeholders to address complex issues. You will contribute to shaping a modern customs environment and ensure the regulatory system is fit for purpose, both now and in the future.
Customs' regulatory system enables international trade, revenue collection and travel across New Zealand's border. You will be required to provide advice and trouble-shoot on matters that affect businesses, other government agencies, as well as private individuals. In addition, you will have previously worked on complex issues that involve balancing risks and trade-offs and be able to identify strategic opportunities. Working as part of a supportive, engaged and high-performing team that is committed to encouraging career development, you will work to achieve excellent results and enjoy using your initiative, judgement and experience.
A background in public policy, law, economics or a related discipline would be an advantage.
