Antarctica New Zealand is redeveloping the iconic Scott Base, to support New Zealand’s enduring presence in Antarctica and the Ross Sea for the next 50 years. The new base will continue to facilitate world-leading science and better support local and deep-field science with improved efficiencies. Not surprisingly, construction in Antarctica is not straight forward, and the safety of people and the protection of the environment are paramount.

**What will you do?**

This role will coordinate the SBR health and safety systems and processes for construction operations, both in New Zealand and Antarctica. It will help ensure the integration and management of Antarctica New Zealand’s HSMS in the context of the redevelopment project, including engaging with the main contractor and other stakeholders involved in the Scott Base Redevelopment (SBR) Project.

Key responsibilities include:

- Provide technical health and safety support to the SBR project team
- Help ensure Antarctica New Zealand’s HSMS is integrated within the SBR
- Review, update and ensure the implementation of the SBR Project Health, Safety and Wellbeing Management Plan and associated risk register
- Review Main Contractor site safety plans and related documentation
- Complete regular health and safety assessments/audits both remotely and onsite
- Travel to Antarctica for approximately one - two weeks per annum to oversee Health and Safety work as done. This requires being certified medically fit by Antarctic New Zealand's medical assessor. There is a requirement to have up to date COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations and be in good health.

**What will you bring?**
- Holds or actively working towards an NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent, relevant Certificate/Diploma),
- A minimum of three years’ experience in health and safety on civil or construction projects
- Experience undertaking and/or facilitating health and safety inspections and audits
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with colleagues, consultants and contractors to deliver excellent health and safety results
- A team-based attitude with a solution focused approach to challenges and issues.
