**Position Overview**:We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to plan, design, and oversee the assembly, erection, commissioning, and maintenance of mechanical and process plant installations. This role involves developing functional statements, reviewing project information, and optimizing worker and equipment efficiencies. The Mechanical Engineer will collaborate closely with our fabrication and installation teams to ensure the quality and performance of our systems and processes.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Plan, design, and oversee the assembly, installation, and commissioning of mechanical systems for steel fabrication, welding, and structural installation.
- Collaborate with the fabrication and welding teams to design and develop steel structures, frames, and components for construction projects.
- Organize and manage project labor and materials, ensuring efficient use of equipment, such as CNC machines, welding machines, and other steel fabrication tools.
- Develop specifications for the manufacture of steel components, determining materials, equipment, piping, and layout to optimize plant construction and fabrication processes.
- Establish standards and policies for installation, welding, modification, quality control, testing, and inspection, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and engineering principles.
- Analyze workforce utilization, equipment performance, and operational data to identify opportunities for increased efficiency in steel fabrication and welding operations.
- Conduct regular inspections of steel structures and welding work to ensure optimal performance and structural integrity.
- Coordinate the maintenance of machinery and equipment used in steel fabrication, ensuring that all systems meet the required standards of performance and safety.
- Assist in the design and implementation of new mechanical systems, machinery, and fabrication methods to support the growing demands of the business.
- Develop continuous improvement strategies for steel fabrication processes, focusing on enhancing equipment efficiency and minimizing downtime.
- Perform risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential risks related to mechanical systems, welding operations, and structural integrity.
**Requirements**:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience in mechanical design, fabrication, and installation within the construction or steel industry.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, equipment design, and engineering principles.
- Familiarity with industry standards for mechanical systems and safety regulations.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and project management tools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze technical data and develop effective solutions.
- Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and client expectations.
**Preferred Skills**:
- Experience with steel fabrication and installation projects.
- Knowledge of New Zealand’s construction regulations and safety standards.
- Familiarity with project management tools like MS Project or similar software.
- Certification in project management (PMP or equivalent) is an advantage.
