**About The Opportunity**
Employing over 500 staff in one of the most stunning locations in the country, Queenstown Lakes District Council is at the very heart of a dynamic community. QLDC has a central role to play in maintaining and enhancing the quality and livability of the outstanding environment of the southern lakes district. Their services are essential to the people in our region and include infrastructure development, community recreational facilities and planning, building and other regulatory services.

The Principal Building Advisor is responsible for leading and directing all technical and compliance standards of the Building Services Department to ensure Queenstown Lakes District Council is fully compliant, and optimally positioned for the future.

Key duties include:
**Quality Assurance** - leading the building services quality assurance and continual improvement process.

**Technical Leadership** - Supporting management in achieving the department’s goals and objectives and technical leadership of a team of approximately 40 across Building Consent Authority/Territorial Authority.

**Planning & Development** - Ensuring QLDC’s future and current Building Services are legislatively compliant and fit for purpose and the Council are provided with timely, balanced, and pragmatic technical building services advice and guidance.

**Customer Service - **Provision of technical leadership and guidance for Team Leaders and Managers to enable the effective investigation and resolution of queries and incidents.

**Process Management -** Provision of technical leadership to promote and champion improvements to business processes and systems implemented as part of the Building Services Department’s work programme.

To be considered you will need
- Bachelor’s degree required in a relevant discipline
- NZQA Level 6 qualification which is recognised as part of Regulation 18 of the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006
- 8+ years’ relevant experience including experience gained within a BCA setting.
- Extensive working knowledge of all Building Act related legislation, New Zealand standards, local bylaws, Resource Management Act, Residential Tenancies Act and district and regional plans relevant to the Building industry in the Queenstown Lakes District/New Zealand and technical building knowledge.
- An active member of related professional organisation e.g. BOINZ.
- A current valid Class 1 motor vehicle license.
