Job Title: DevOps Engineer - DevOps Tooling
Are you passionate about delivering top-quality technology solutions? We are looking for a talented DevOps Engineer to join our DevOps Tooling team. As a member of this team, you will be responsible for Championing the fundamentals of DevOps across teams in Spark. You will support our primary developer tooling platforms including Azure DevOps, Terraform, Vault, OpenShift, Nexus, SonarQube, server virtualization and Atlassian. If you have a real passion for tools, problem-solving, and working with people, we want to hear from you This is a fun and challenging opportunity for individuals who are eager to grow their skills and make a difference in a dynamic and innovative company.
Spark:
We are Spark, New Zealand's largest and multi-brand digital services company offering mobile, fixed, and IT products and services to millions of New Zealand consumers and businesses. Our team is comprised of inspired and forward-thinking individuals who are dedicated to enabling New Zealanders to unleash their potential through innovative technology and digital experiences. With a progressive approach to technology, we are continuously evolving and seek fresh, creative energy to help us shape New Zealand's digital future.
Our portfolio includes brands that support home, consumer mobile, and small business customers, as well as Spark Digital which powers government and business customers with robust cloud services, mobility, and ICT capabilities. Our subsidiary brands include Skinny, CCL, Spark Sport, Qrious, Leaven, Digital Island, Mattr, and Bigpipe. Additionally, Spark's in-house incubator, Spark Ventures, is always exploring new business opportunities and researching cutting-edge technologies.
About the Role:
As a hands-on engineer you will be able to get your hands dirty in designing and developing solutions aimed at modernizing the software delivery pipeline to enable the developer community to do CI/CD well, from building pipelines to supporting and guiding teams who want to build their own.
You will evaluate, configure, deploy and maintain DevOps tools both on-premise and in the cloud to support DevSecOps, GitOps, IaC practises and our hybrid cloud strategy.
We understand that every development shop is different, and even experienced professionals may need time to get up to speed with a new role. Our team is dedicated to training and mentoring our employees to help them fill any skill gaps they may have.
Necessary Attributes:
- Problem-solving skills. A lot of your time will be solving problems for things you know little about, yet **you** need to figure it out. This is a fun, but challenging situation for which you need good problem-solving skills.
- Security and DevSecOps. Security is a big focus for the organization, and we are an integral part of this. It is critical for this role that you have a security focus and promote this to our users. This is more than simply not having passwords in clear text, it's about understanding and having a passion for security and secure practices.
Core skills:
- Familiarity with agile. Spark is an agile leader, and while we will give training and induction, having experience with agile is a definite advantage.
- Azure DevOps, ADO, is the Spark-sanctioned tool for DevOps. This team is responsible for managing and providing support for ADO. Prior experience with ADO, especially in a support role, is advantageous.
- Pipeline tooling is a core part of this role. A lot of what we do is creating and supporting pipelines, having a background in ADO pipelines or other similar tools would be great.
- Experience with development tooling such as NPM, Maven, Yarn, Java, etc. is a huge help in problem-solving pipeline issues.
- Git is ubiquitous within tech companies, even for non-technical roles. While being a Git guru is not critical, having a solid understanding of the use of Git and version control is important.
- Test automation. While Spark test teams do the testing, we work closely to create and support pipelines and tooling for automated testing. Having a background in test automation would be very helpful.
- As Spark increases its utilization of AWS tools, our team needs people with AWS experience, it's tools and capabilities.
- Experience with any of the following tools:
- Azure DevOps
- Nexus
- Bitwarden
- Vault
- SonarQube
- Terraform
- Atlassian tools - Confluence and Jira
- Server virtualization tools such as CA DevTest and Wiremock
- PowerAutomate, including PowerApps and Flow
- PowerBI
- NodeJS & React
**Benefits**:
Spark aims to be the place where the smartest, most digitally savvy talent wants to work, in an inclusive, diverse workplace.
