Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders. **About the Role** Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora - Whanganui has an exciting opportunity for two permanent, full time (2 FTE) roles starting from July 2026. You would be part of a team of 9 Consultant Psychiatrists based at the Whanganui hospital. In this role, you will provide a high standard of clinical practice and clinical expertise, contributing to the provision of efficient and effective mental health services to the community and region served by the Health NZ Whanganui; provide supervision and instruction for Resident Medical Officers and interns assigned to Mental Health Services; and work in conjunction with the Clinical Director, Mental Health and Addiction Service and Associate Director Mental Health and Addiction Service, to provide advice on clinical management matters and professional standards of practice. **About the Team/Service/ Location** Whanganui Hospital is located on the West coast of New Zealand's North Island with a wide range of services including emergency medicine, general medicine, general surgery, orthopaedics, O&G, ENT, ophthalmology, dentistry and psychiatry. We serve a population of approximately 65,000 residents and serves as a central hub for the 16,000 people residing in the surrounding districts across the region. We provide a six-bed critical care unit with tertiary support from Wellington Hospital. Tertiary services such as cardio-thoracics, neurosurgery, paediatric surgery and cardiology are provided for our patients in Wellington. Our Mental Health and Addiction Services have a multidisciplinary team (MDT) of health professionals who work together with the service user and their family to ensure they receive integrated care to help with their recovery and discharge. The Te Whatu Ora Whanganui work in partnership with Te Oranganui Iwi services who have kaumātua and kuia available to provide cultural support to patients/service users/tangata whaiora and their whānau, if required.
