Waka Kotahi - The NZ Transport Agency along with its delivery partners on the Mt Messenger Alliance, is constructing a new section of SH3, between Uruti and Ahititi to the north of New Plymouth in Taranaki which is located entirely within the rōhe of Ngāti Tama. This new section of SH3 will bypass the existing approximately 7.4km steep, narrow and winding section of highway at Mt Messenger. The complex project involves significant earthworks, drainage, tunnel construction, bridges, and new pavement and surfacing along with some unique environmental enhancement works.
**Te** **kōwhiringa | The Opportunity**
The Transport and Infrastructure Projects Team are looking to add to their busy team. This opportunity is for an experienced Quality Engineer based on our Mt Messenger site.
**Nga pūkenga matua | Important Skills**
- Ensuring contract compliance with regards to physical works and technical requirements
- Managing and monitoring non-conformances and defects resolution
- Developing and managing process control to achieve acceptable physical works
- Construction quality planning and review in line with the project’s management plans and control systems
- Implementing Quality Assurance initiatives as directed by Downer or as needed by the project
- Finding inefficiencies within work processes and addressing them
- Managing Quality Assurance documentation and reviewing contract correspondence, including design RFIs
- Internal auditing of the project processes and site quality to ensure the controls and systems are effective
- Managing the project handover and Practical Completion process requirements
- Providing leadership, encouragement and training to project staff
**About You**:
You will be a tertiary qualified engineer with at least 2 years’ experience in civil engineering works. You will be systematic and detail-oriented, with an ability to analyse specification and standards to determine acceptance criteria and scope quality assurance activities. You will be a good communicator with the ability to engage people from site labour through to client managers. You will be committed to transparency, professionalism, and continuous improvement. You will be interested in developing a long-term career in the construction industry.
**You will also possess**:
- Full Class 1 driver’s license
- Enthusiasm for construction quality including a proven ability to analyse technical documents.
- Strong commitment to high standards in health, safety and environmental management.
- Strong communication skills, including a high standard of written communication.
- Relationship Management Experience i.e. a strong customer focus
- Construction experience on large multi-disciplined projects.
