He angitūtanga | About the role
This is an integral role in the Operations Team based at the Kapiti Wellington District Office and will focus on the further development and maintenance of historic and recreation opportunities for six months of the year. The remaining six month component of the role will focus on the removal of animal and plant pests and undertaking other biodiversity work (fire fighting, wildlife response, island biosecurity work etc) within the District.
Your day-to-day work will be strongly field based but will include a mix of office work to support the role and team. The work will take you across the Kapiti Wellington District. Please refer directly to the applicant information sheet which provides more specific details about this role.

- Excellent planning, organisational, coordinating, computing and administration skills.
- Ability to regularly work away from home on scheduled work trips is essential. This will involve staying overnight (for up to ten days) on islands or at other remote work sites.
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory - this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
- Current NZ Class 1 drivers' licence (minimum requirement restricted licence and can drive a manual vehicle).

Desirable qualifications/skills or willingness to be trained up to these standards:

- Chainsaw and scrubbar experience/unit standards
- Proficient in the use of GPS and the map toaster computer programme.
- Growsafe Certification.
- First Aid Certification.
- Basic DIY and carpentry, landscaping, building skills.
- Tramping or backcountry experience/skills.
- Basic Firefighting training.
- Asset Management Systems - AMIS, SAP.
- Four-wheel drive unit standards.
- Light Utility Vehicle (LUV) unit standards.
- Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS) Level 2.
- Team process training.
- Skills and knowledge pertaining to the use of the DOC plant and animal pest data base.
- Te Pukenga Atawhai Certificate (or similar) and has an understanding of Maori cultural values.
- Must have reasonable computer skills (as least proficient with the Microsoft suite excel, word and outlook).
