New Zealand Blood and Organ Service (NZBS) has sole responsibility for collecting, processing, and distributing blood in New Zealand. **About the Role**
Join our ASHI and IANZ accredited Transplantation and Immunogenetics Laboratory in Auckland and be at the forefront of transplantation testing in New Zealand. This is a rare opportunity for someone with the right knowledge and experience, with a passion for leadership to enhance the operational and technical aspects of our New Zealand Transplantation and Immunogenetics laboratory (NZTIL) functional stream.
This is an exciting leadership opportunity for an experienced Laboratory Scientist whilst being able to maintain technical skill with ongoing bench work working closely with the Team Leader to build a cohesive team with shared objectives. Enhance the technical and scientific aspects of the work performed in the laboratory, supervision, coordination and a focus on delivery to agreed processes and standards.
Your base salary will be between $117,420 to $122,570 depending on skills, experience and registration.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Assist in building a strong team identity with common goals and fosters open communication and collaboration among the team
- Provides direction, delegation and supervision to colleagues in order to meet team and individual commitments and build capability
- Perform all laboratory processes and procedures
- Liaise with clinicians and transplant services
- Assist with the development and implementation of new techniques and systems
- Prepare, review and/or update standard operating procedures as required or requested
- Creating a learning environment, providing training and guidance to new and existing staff, BMLS students, Haematology Registrars and Transplant Coordinators.
- Registered Medical Laboratory Scientist (or eligible for registration) with the Medical Sciences Council of NZ
- At least 5 years' experience in a Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics/ Immunology laboratory
- Experience taking a leadership role within a team including building accountability and developing capability within the team to deliver agreed processes and standards
- Experience in helping others grow and succeed, recognising team and individual contributions
- Adaptable and able to troubleshoot in a complex technical environment
- Detailed understanding of solid organ transplantation, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and transfusion support.
- Sound knowledge of the HLA system (immunology, genetics, and nomenclature), with comprehensive experience in Tissue Typing techniques including serology and DNA protocols
- Able to participate in an on-call roster and
- Deputise for the Team Leader as required.
