Hawke's Bay hospital is an increasingly innovative organisation providing opportunities to make a difference to patients and to the wider health sector.

We have a new position in our current team for a qualified Intensive Care Physician. This is a permanent fulltime position.

The Hawke’s Bay Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a Level 2 ICU providing a high standard of general intensive care to both adults and children including complex multi-system life support. The Unit is capable of providing non-invasive and mechanical ventilation, extra-corporeal renal replacement therapy and invasive cardiac monitoring. The Unit has a total of 13 beds: 4-6 High Dependency beds and 5-7 Intensive Care beds, including a negative pressure isolation room, with en-suite facilities and an ante-room for strict isolation precautions. The Intensive Care Service also provides a Critical Care Transport Service for the Hospital, Retrievals from Wairoa Hospital and Inter-Hospital Transports. The Unit also participates in the Resuscitation and Rapid Response Service within the Hospital.

The Intensive Care Unit currently has a team of nine Consultants and 14 Registrars. Our Intensive Care Physicians have high clinical profile within the department and are committed to the delivery of high quality medical care.

There are opportunities to be involved in hospital wide initiatives to improve both Intensive and Hospital Care. The Department offers the opportunity for a wide range of clinical interests including support for clinical research. The Department is currently involved in national and international studies.
