**Te Tūranga - The Role**
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced **Senior Production Fitter** to join our Manufacturing Workshop team in Christchurch. In this hands-on role, you'll play a key part in keeping our production equipment operating safely, reliably, and efficiently, while also contributing to continuous improvement and new product introduction activities.
You'll be a trusted technical expert within Manufacturing, providing problem-solving capability, high-quality toolmaking, and practical engineering advice across the wider Tait business. Just as importantly, you'll guide and mentor others, helping build capability within the Workshop team.
As parts of our factory operate 24/7, this role may include participation in the Manufacturing Standby/Call-out Roster once fully trained, with additional allowances provided.
**The duties of the role will include**:
- Designing, machining, building, and assembling jigs, fixtures, production aids, and machinery components
- Producing CAD designs and supporting documentation, including maintenance plans and spare parts lists
- Diagnosing and resolving production equipment and process issues
- Completing routine and emergency maintenance, calibration, and safety assessments
- Supporting manufacturing and process improvement projects as a team member or leader
- Working closely with Production Engineers and development teams to ensure new products are manufacturable and supported by appropriate equipment
- Providing advice on best-practice assembly processes, mechanical aids, and automation
- Training others in the operation and maintenance of production equipment
- Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers
- Mentoring Workshop team members and providing technical advice across Operations
You'll also be accountable for the quality of your own work, proactively identifying and addressing quality issues and opportunities for improvement.
**Ō pūkenga - About You**
To be successful in this role, you'll bring a relevant mechanical or maintenance engineering qualification and strong practical experience in a manufacturing or workshop environment.
**As well as**:
- Several years' experience in mechanical engineering, toolmaking, or maintenance
- Proven experience with CNC and manual machining, light fabrication, and welding
- Strong CAD capability (e.g. SolidWorks, Creo or similar)
- Experience working with pneumatic systems
- Familiarity with asset or maintenance management systems
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others
- Confidence providing guidance, mentorship, and technical advice
- A practical, solutions-focused mindset and a commitment to quality and safety
**Ideally, you'll also have**:
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems
- Electrical trade experience
- Team leadership or mentoring experience
- A current First Aid certificate
