**Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity**
We are looking for a Teaching Technician to support our Engineering Design programmes.
The Teaching Technicians are responsible for running this workshop, which includes:
- overseeing all practical learning, teaching, and research activity conducted in the workshop
- building a safe and welcoming environment for students of all mechanical skill levels
- helping students learn safe equipment use as they develop their practical skills
- working with academic colleagues to plan out practical learning and teaching activities
- working with colleagues to plan further workshop development and expansion
- mentor and teach alongside our team of Graduate Teaching Assistants (postgraduate students hired to support teaching in the workshop)
- making sure the labs themselves are well stocked, the equipment is maintained, and the highest levels of safety are upheld
The Fabricating and Prototyping Workshop is still in an early stage, so you’ll have the opportunity to help shape the tools, projects, and culture in the space that will be used by over 1000 students per year. We started with basic workshop tools; are adding milling, turning, and welding this year; and plan to grow our capabilities over time.
This is a full time, 37.5 hours per week, on a permanent basis. The salary range for this role is $56,600 - $70,600 per annum depending on experience and qualifications.

**Qualifications**:
**He kōrero mōu | About you**
- have a welcoming attitude towards novice machinists
- understand the importance of empowering students to learn and create through experience and exploration
- have a trade qualification or significant relevant experience in a technical engineering role (in an industry setting)
- have demonstrated safe and effective mentorship of novice technicians in mills, lathes, MIG welding, and/or workshop tools
- have experience implementing and managing Health & Safety protocols and practices relevant to engineering workshops
- have very good verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate well with people from a range of backgrounds, experience levels and cultures.
