Rural Compliance Officers

This role represents an exciting opportunity for two regulatory officers to join our team to deliver compliance, monitoring and enforcement (CME) functions relating to rural based activities, under the Resource Management Act 1991 and other environmental functions.
**Mō te tūranga | About the role**
The role primarily involves monitoring dairy farm effluent management, production forestry harvesting operations, new regulation relevant to the agricultural sector concerning freshwater management and resource consents issued for rurally based activities.
The role includes a mix of field work and office-based tasks, so a reasonable level of physical fitness and mobility are required as the role can involve walking over rough terrain, requiring light to medium physical exertion.
The role has a significant regulatory component to it, so you must be comfortable undertaking the functions of an enforcement officer pursuant to the Resource Management Act 1991 and be confident in accurately recording information and report writing.
**Mō te tangata | About you**
The successful applicants will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ideally have a background in regulatory and primary sector fields.
A practical understanding of dairy farming practices, forestry harvesting operations or other rural based activities would be an advantage but is not essential.
**Mō ngā pūkenga | Qualifications and experience**
A tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Forestry Science or Operations, Agriculture and or Resource Management; or
A relevant qualification in a primary industry or law enforcement field; and
An advantage would be applied experience in working with the Resource Management Act, including compliance monitoring.
You will also have:
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to build positive relationships and the ability to work with a wide range of people to achieve positive outcomes.
- Good organisational skills including time management, prioritising, and forward planning, with an eye for detail.

The Rural Compliance Team is part of the Regional Compliance Section and work closely with the Incident Response, Maritime Safety and Investigations teams.
You will have the support of three Senior Rural Compliance Officers and report to the Team Leader - Rural Compliance.
