The NZ Police Commercial Vehicle Safety Team (formally the Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit) is looking for a suitably qualified applicant to train and become one of the team's Vehicle Safety Officers (VSO). CVST is a national prevention focused service unit within the Police. Staff are based throughout the country in 4 operational regions. This VSO position is based within the Wellington District. The VSO role primarily involves inspecting commercial vehicles for compliance with Land Transport rules and regulations including full mechanical inspections, driver/operator compliance checks, weighbridge and roadside enforcement duties and providing expert advice to team members and management. He aha taau e kawe mai | What you’ll bring Whilst we are looking for skills, knowledge and experience relevant to the role, we also place high importance on your state of mind, the alignment of your values with ours, your ability to contribute to and build high performing teams, and the way that you lead yourself or others. **Skills & Experience**: - Knowledge of heavy/light vehicle inspection, CoF/WoF - Knowledge of the legislative requirements for vehicle standards - An ability to relate to and communicate with people from all parts of the transport sector - An understanding of the requirements for heavy vehicle braking - A passion for all New Zealanders to "be safe, feel safe" Special Requirements - Must hold New Zealand Certificate in Heavy Automotive Engineering (Level 4) or equivalent. - A clean driving record, a class 2 Motor Vehicle license is essential. - Must have Heavy Diesel Vehicle Experience **Additional Information**: - Must have the physical ability and capability to complete a full range of CVST duties.
