Sustainability & Environmental Lead

Due to an internal development opportunity, we have an opening for 12 months on a fixed term contract with our Environmental team as a Sustainability & Environmental Lead based in Penrose.
**Reporting to the Environmental Manager you will be responsible for but not limited to**:
- Implementing and delivering on our sustainability strategy around carbon reduction, biodiversity, water and waste management.
- Identify opportunities for delivering sustainability and environmental improvement projects across our sites.
- Manage and oversee environmental management systems, carbon accounting software and generate monthly and bi-monthly reports.
- Review and update management plans and lead consent implementation as required.
- Provide environmental compliance and sustainability advice to operations and engineering teams.
- Collaborate and communicate with divisional businesses units and corporate peers to ensure alignment of sustainability plans and reporting.
- Engage contractors to undertake consent requirements such as rehab planting, fencing, fish relocation, install of monitoring stations etc
- Identify opportunities to raise awareness of initiatives that are underway, showcase progress and excellence and spread the message about the importance of sustainability and environmental performance.
**Skills and experience required**:
- Good understanding of the Resource Management Act, related legislation, and local government planning processes
- A good understanding of the relevant international, national and local trends and developments relating to sustainability policy, regulation, and practice.
- Experience with developing and implementing operational policy
- Knowledge about biodiversity effects management and rural environmental issues
- Experience building positive, enduring working relationships, and working collaboratively with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for a diverse range of audiences
- An interest in further developing te ao Māori language to support ongoing communication with local Iwi and community groups.
