**Mo te turanga | About the role**

The Strategic Communications and Engagement unit uses the DOC brand and voice to drive engagement, change behaviour, educate and communicate about conservation and nature, and to socialise our work through campaigns, publications, products and national partnerships.

We are excited to announce an opportunity for an editor to join our unit in a 12-month fixed term contract. Reporting to the Team Lead Editorial, Creative Services, you will deliver a highly efficient and effective editing service that spans a diverse and ambitious programme of work.

Whanaungatanga is a guiding principle throughout this mahi. You will collaborate closely with colleagues and stakeholders across the organisation, from scientists and policy experts through to rangers on the ground.

Your expertise will be key in supporting the editing and publishing of a wide range of materials, including signs, brochures, factsheets, reports, posters and marketing campaigns, inspiring people to be aware of, connect with and act for nature and cultural heritage, and to stay safe when visiting public conservation land.

An understanding of matauranga Maori and te ao Maori is important - at DOC, we seek to bring te ao Maori into all our work and to ensure that iwi, hapu and whanau are enabled and supported to share their stories.

You will bring to this role:

- Experience and confidence in developing and fostering collaborative relationships with a variety of stakeholders
The ability to think critically, allowing you to navigate ambiguity, identify issues and risks, and create solutions to resolve problems.

Are you motivated to inspire people to connect and care for nature? We want to hear from you if you have:

- A passion for editing with at least 1 years' experience or a formal qualification in editing
- Experience and confidence in developing and fostering collaborative relationships with a variety of stakeholders
- The ability to think critically, allowing you to navigate ambiguity, identify issues and risks, and create solutions to resolve problems
- Strong prioritisation skills, with the ability to work in a flexible and agile way across a variety of content while ensuring consistency in tone and meeting multiple deadlines
- Excellent communication skills that enable you to speak with authority to positively negotiate and influence branding decisions
Cultural awareness of te ao Maori and the ability to effectively engage with Maori as our Treaty partner.

Desirable:
A background in science.
