**Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role**

This role is for New Graduate or experienced Occupational Therapist
Occupational Therapists in the MHSOP team provides a mixture of Key Working and Occupational Therapy specific intervention. The service provides for over 65 with serious mental health diagnoses, complicated dementias and for those under 65 with a diagnosis of early onset dementia.

A large portion of the caseload is working with people who are experiencing various types of dementia. Interventions may include:
- Reviewing a client’s function/ occupational performance and identifying any safety concerns in their place of residence

Making recommendations to support or decrease identified issues while continuing to encourage the client to engage in meaningful activity
- Providing guidance on behavioural and environmental strategies to assist with behaviours of dementia. This includes giving advice and education to caregivers, rest homes and family around occupational performance issues
- Supplying equipment to support independence
- Periodic Involvement in carer support groups
- Sensory modulation.

As an Occupational Therapist you work with a multidisciplinary team, utilise recovery-based principles and the clients support network to support best outcome. Networking with Primary health and NGO providers to achieve coordinated optimum outcomes for the client is an integral part of the role.

This role will work weekdays between the hours of 0800 to 1630 excluding Public Holidays

**Moū - About you**
- Current New Zealand Annual Practising Certificate registration
- Current New Zealand driver’s license
- A commitment to translating evidence into practice, ability, skills and knowledge to implement appropriate OT assessments and interventions
- A commitment to biculturalism.
- A commitment to achieving equitable outcomes for Maori.
- An understanding of healthcare in New Zealand.
- Computer literacy: Microsoft word, Microsoft outlook.
