Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
Join our Corporate Delivery Services team as Head of Risk and champion a strong risk culture at a national, regional and local level. As a key leader, you will embed a risk management framework and bring together a consolidated view of risk across Te Whatu Ora, as well as leading the corporate risk function.
The Head of Risk will develop the National Risk Work Programme and collaborate closely regionally and locally to ensure appropriate risk management, mitigation and reporting activities are occurring, and that staff working in risk functions across the motu are well supported. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing an agreed Risk Management Strategy (RMS) for strategic risks and risk assessment, analysis and management.
Relationships and collaboration will be key in this role, from reporting to ELT and the Board to educating and training staff members, to building relationships across the sector. As part of this collaboration, there will be a need to effectively communicate technical risk concepts and material to non-risk experts, and get their buy-in.
Mōu | About you
You are a Risk Management professional who has worked in a risk function for ten years or more, including time in senior leadership roles. As an experienced thought and people leader, you would be confident taking on this key role in a large public sector organisation during a time of transformation.
Past experience designing, building and embedding a risk management strategy and framework is critical and will allow you to hit the ground running in this role, and a working knowledge of the health sector would be a bonus.

- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a willingness to learn these in a meaningful way in your role
- Experience of designing, building and embedding a risk management strategy and frameworks
- Experience leading a risk function
- Strategic thinking skills, financial literacy, and solid risk management and project management experience
- Demonstrated ability to analyse information from multiple and diverse sources, making judgements and decisions based on business needs
