Wellington City, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

Forward thinking, dynamic Crown entity
- Supportive, collaborative and flexible work environment
- Opportunity to make a difference

Privacy is precious - help protect it
We are Aotearoa New Zealand's privacy regulator - a small, independent Crown entity charged with promoting and protecting the privacy of the individual.

The opportunity
As the Principal Policy Adviser (Children and Young People), you will be the expert policy practitioner who leads our work in addressing the risks to the privacy of children and young people in NZ, with a focus on the online environment. You will provide the thought leadership and policy expertise to generate innovative and practical, evidence-based policy solutions to deliver this. With young people spending more time online at younger ages, and with business models increasingly targeting the collection of young people's personal information for use in advertising, this is an area that will only continue to grow in importance.
The online privacy work is project specific, to be delivered within the 12-month fixed term. It will include designing and implementing a project plan; analysing regulatory frameworks in other jurisdictions for the protection of children and young people's privacy rights online; assessing the NZ online regulatory eco-system; consulting with key partners and stakeholders; analysing regulatory gaps and options; and recommending next steps for improving regulation in this area.
In other words, an opportunity to lead and deliver a significant piece of policy work that can make a real difference to the privacy of children and young people in NZ.

What you will need to succeed
- 5+ years proven success in delivering effective policy thought leadership and solutions
- Ability to design, lead and deliver complex policy projects on a system-wide, cross-agency basis
- Rigorous analytical skills, qualitative and quantitative
- Excellent stakeholder relationship and communications skills
- Experience in a regulatory environment, with designing policy solutions for children and young people, and/or with privacy law would be an advantage

You must have the legal right to work in New Zealand to be considered for this role.
Applications close 5pm, Friday, 17 March, unless the role is filled prior.
