**1. GENERAL**
Student Services provides a comprehensive range of relevant student services which support teaching,
learning and research and enrich the Waikato student experience. The work of Student Services
comprises the following student services: student recruitment, administration processes from enrolment
through to graduation, enquiry management, pastoral care, international student services, health,
accommodation, counselling, disabilities support, career development services, high performance
student management, maintenance of student data and academic records, credit transfer, Tauranga
campus administration, student surveys and student complaints and appeals.
The Student Accommodation group is focused on the accommodation and pastoral care needs of
students living in the University Halls of Residence. The Tauranga Residential Life Manager is
responsible for the Tauranga accommodation facility.
**2. POSITION PURPOSE**
To clean the Hall to the standard set by the University, so that residents may live in a clean and hygienic
environment. In particular to share a responsibility for health and safety within the Hall, so that a safe
and comfortable lifestyle is available to the Hall's residents.
**3. ACCOUNTABILITY**
The Housekeeper is responsible to the Residential Life Manager.

**5. KEY TASKS**
- To clean all communal spaces including the central kitchen, dining room, laundry, meeting room,
office, stairwells, internal and external entrance, basement areas; and the kitchenette, lounge, toilet
and hallway areas on each floor.
- When bedrooms are vacated to clean and prepare the rooms for the next student, including the
cleaning of the bathrooms (showers, toilets, floors and hand basins), removing rubbish, vacuuming,
cleaning mirrors, dusting and windows.
- Undertake regular inspections of bedrooms and issue residents with a pass or fail notice following
the inspection.
- Once a week enter each bedroom to remove the rubbish, check on the room and to undertake a
wellness check on the resident.
- Check and report on ill health or unusual behaviour of the Hall's residents to the Residential Life
Manager.
- Undertake a ‘cleaning expectations, procedures and equipment’ training session for the residents at
the beginning of each semester with the support of the Residential Life Manager.
- Check and report maintenance faults.
- To be an active member of the Housekeepers team.
- Meet weekly with the Residential Life Manager and the staff team.
- Participate in the maintenance of a safe and healthy environment for self and others including
students. Comply with and undertake responsibilities set out in the University’s Health and Safety
Policy.
Any other duties as required that are consistent with the position held, other than in exceptional circumstances
such as rehabilitation after injury or sickness.
**NOTE**:Staff have annual objectives, development and reflection (ODR) meetings with their manager. New
staff normally attend such meeting approximately three months after taking up their appointment.
**6. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS**
The Housekeeper will be performing satisfactorily when:
- All areas are maintained and cleaned to the standard set by the University.
- Residents bedrooms are regularly inspected.
- Resident wellness checks are regularly undertaken.
- The Residential Life Manager and other members of the Hall team are assisted in the pastoral care
of the residents.
- Maintenance faults are reported promptly.
- Good communication links are established and maintained; ideas and issues are discussed as these
contribute to the smooth running of the Hall.
- Safe and healthy practices are followed. University policies, procedures, relevant work standards
and statutory obligations are complied with.
