**Mo te turanga | About the role**
Reporting to the Deputy Director-General Organisation Support, the Director Health Safety and Security will oversee and lead DOC's health, safety, and security strategy across all DOC's operations. You'll lead a geographically dispersed team dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of our staff, contractors and volunteers, while also safeguarding our facilities and operating environments.

The position will be focussed on:

- Lead an integrated and collaborative organization-wide health, safety, and security framework aligned with DOC's values and regulatory obligations
- Oversee a comprehensive critical risk management programme - including, emergency management, and business continuity planning
- Provide expert leadership to a national team of health and safety, injury management and security professionals who support a widely distributed operational workforce
- Collaborate effectively with leadership, stakeholders and external agencies to ensure compliance, alignment with best practices, and responsive decision-making
- Deliver expert guidance, training and support to embed risk-informed behaviour and knowledge throughout the organization

If you have some of the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:

- Significant strategic leadership experience in health and safety and/or security -ideally within a complex, highly operational and dispersed workforce and environment
- Proven ability to lead dispersed teams across diverse and remote locations
- Deep understanding of New'Zealand's health and safety legislation (e.g., Health and Safety at Work Act) and relevant international best practices - tertiary qualifications in Health and Safety desired
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage colleagues and stakeholders at all levels
- Strong skills in risk assessment, emergency management, and business continuity planning.
- Sound understanding of the impact DOC and the wider public sector/government has on the Maori Crown relationship, and the obligations of the Crown under the Treaty of Waitangi

The salary range for this position is $206,880 - $284,460 with the starting salary of the successful applicant based on their relevant skills and experience.
