The Role - Te Tūranga
We're looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join our Legal team in either our Auckland or Wellington office. Our Legal team is the FMA's inhouse financial services legal team - responsible for the provision of pragmatic, high quality and effective legal advice required by the FMA to achieve our regulatory objectives and strategic outcomes. In this fast-paced and rewarding role, you'll be involved in a real variety of legal work, including:

- providing legal advice and support to decision makers and the FMA's front line teams in relation to potential misconduct by market participants,
- contributing to policy development and FMA guidance on financial markets legislation, and advising on key projects within the FMA,
- engaging with financial market participants and their advisers in relation to a range of legal issues,
- leading individual exemptions and designations and providing advice within the FMA on class exemptions and designations, and
- working closely with lawyers in other FMA teams.

About you - Ō pūkenga
This position is suited to an experienced solicitor from a regulatory or financial markets background. You will possess 6+ years' post admission experience, and a current practising certificate (or entitlement to one).
You will enjoy thinking through interesting and novel legal issues with a sharp mind, be solutions-focused, have strong interpersonal skills and a 'can do' attitude Ideally, you'll already possess knowledge of laws and regulations relevant to the financial sector, including the FMC Act and AML/CFT Act, be familiar with administrative law and be confident in navigating complex legislation and providing clear and effective written legal advice. Your top-notch relationship building and communication skills will be just as important to your success as your technical abilities.
