About the role
The Evidence-Based Policing Service Centre sits within Insights and Deployment Group; the purpose of the Evidence-Based Policing (EBP) Centre is to embed an evidence-based approach into all operations of Police. By using information, crime-science and problem-solving methods we ensure that proven approaches and tactics guide our work, are seen in the results, and provide confidence that what we do works. EBP is a critical function to support the organisation in realising its opportunity to be the best Police service and deliver on Our Business.
Working closely with the Director, EBPC and Chief Data Scientist, the Manager - Data Science provides advice and support for the analysis and use of data both across the EBP programme of performance, research and evaluation, and across the organisation and wider criminal justice and research sectors.
This position will work collaboratively and seamlessly with other managers and teams across the EBP Centre, and other partners, to provide a multi-disciplinary and integrated approach to the delivery of high quality and innovative work.
**Key Accountabilities**:
- Direct data science teams to identify, scope, and execute projects by collaborating with other business stakeholders.
- Develop and manage strategic relationships and partnerships, and establish appropriate cadence, to engage with business groups, partners and stakeholders.
- Develop and implement delivery plans in conjunction with other managers including agreed project phases, objectives, deliverables, constraints and principle working activities.
- Lead and ensure the delivery of expert information and advice on specialised areas for the Police Executive, Directors, managers, and other senior staff.
- Provide leadership to other Data Science staff, in particular coaching and mentoring to help, guide or develop employees.

**Key skills include**:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Operations Research, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or in a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Proven industry experience in at least one of the following: SAS, Azure Power BI, AWS, Qlik.
- Knowledge and experience in leading the full data management lifecycle end to end.
- Demonstrated high standard of delivery in conjunction with key stakeholders, senior leadership teams, governance groups and sector partners.
- Leadership experience, including coaching and mentoring of staff and developing policies, frameworks and resources in order to build a strengthened team culture.
- Have experience leading and facilitating engagement with diverse stakeholders and being able to interpret their needs into a strategic brief
- Be resilient, empathetic, knowledgeable and supportive of the wider EBP team.
