We handle complaints against government agencies, review decisions under the official information legislation, undertake investigations, carry out monitoring and inspections under human rights conventions, and encourage good administration. Our Strategic Advice Team provides high level strategic advice on matters relating to policy and practice and guidance within our Office and to external agencies.

He kōrero mōu - About you

**To be successful in this role you will have**:

- A relevant tertiary qualification, preferably in public or administrative law or a related discipline.
- Understanding of the role of the Ombudsman and the Chief Ombudsman's strategic priorities.
- Understanding and experience of the Ombudsman's jurisdiction.
- Understanding of current New Zealand public sector practice, the context in which public sector agencies operate, and the challenges they face.
- Proven ability to recognise and understand key Māori, disability and other cultural and human rights concepts.
- Proven research and assessment skills, and analytical and problem solving abilities.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to express complex and/or controversial ideas clearly, using language and terminology suitably adjusted to the needs of the audience.
- A proven ability to consistently complete assigned tasks on time and to a high standard.

It is a requirement of the Office that all new staff are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 before commencing work. This includes any boosters they are eligible for.
Depending on skills and experience the salary is expected to be $82,000 to $102,000.
