**Mo to matou tira - About the team**: The Chief Ombudsman is designated as a National Preventive Mechanism to carry out responsibilities under the United Nations Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture (OPCAT). These responsibilities are to examine the conditions and treatment of people deprived of liberty, including in: - health and disability places of detention (including private sector aged care facilities); - prisons; - immigration facilities; and - court cells. Our Strategic Advice Team (SAT) provides high level strategic advice on matters relating to policy and practice, and provides guidance to support our operational teams in their work. You will be joining a team that is extremely passionate about the work they do and the difference it makes. **Mo te turanga - About the role**: This Senior Advisor role in the SAT team will have an emphasis on supporting our OPCAT function. In this role, you will work with the Principal Advisors SAT (OPCAT) in delivering senior level advisory support and assistance across a range of OPCAT matters, including policy, practice and peer review. As Senior Advisor, this is an opportunity to position the Ombudsman to achieve impactful outcomes for the treatment and conditions of people in places of detention. **He korero mou - About you**: To be successful in this role you will have: - A relevant tertiary qualification, preferably in law or other relevant discipline; - Experience in human rights and/or detention environments; - Experience in providing advisory services in a monitoring, inspection or investigative environment, preferably at a senior level; - Demonstrated experience of reviewing and designing policy and practice, including guidance documents, and in providing peer review; - Excellent writing skills and strong research and analytical skills. **Te painga o te mahi tahi me matou - Our benefits, what we offer**: Becoming part of an exceptional team in a dynamic organisation, where the work is challenging and rewarding.
